The Mathematics Department consists of eleven skilled teachers. We love Mathematics and strive to instil our passion for the subject into our students, giving them the skills they need to succeed in the wider world.
Our department is equipped with some of the latest technology. All our classrooms make use of interactive displays to make learning come to life. We use software such as Autograph to help mathematical concepts and relate them to real life. In addition to academic study, we provide additional enrichment and support opportunities for our students.
• Puzzle Club
• UKMT Junior, Intermediate and Senior challenges
• UKMT Team Challenge
• Maths Support - twice weekly drop-in sessions
Students study Mathematics for four lessons per week at Key Stage 3, studying:
• Ratio and Proportion
• Geometry and Measures
These lay the foundations for GCSE studies and beyond.
At GCSE, students follow a two-year, linear course. In 2017, 99% of our students achieved a “standard pass” equivalent to a grade 4 (grade C) or above. 94% achieved a “good pass”, including 11% who achieved the top grade 9.
Our highest achievers are also given the opportunity to complete a GCSE Further Mathematics qualification, and in 2017, five of these students achieved the top A** (double-star) grade.
As of September 2017, our A Level students have been following the new linear course, with the first examination being in Summer 2019. The syllabus covers Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics.
Again, our most able students can study additional content in order to achieve A-level Further Mathematics.
