Free School Meals

In England a Free School Meal (FSM) is a statutory benefit available to school-aged children from families who receive other qualifying benefits and who have been through the relevant registration process.  Eligible students receive a daily allocation on their catering account of £3.80 per day (September 2023 onwards).

At West Kirby Grammar School we are always keen to support students who may struggle financially. We do not want their progress to suffer due to monetary constraints. Students are encouraged to apply for a bursary.

Travel Support for Pupil Premium Students

We offer financial support with travel on school operated bus services from areas across Wirral, Chester, Ellesmere Port and North Wales. This scheme applies to students who meet the eligibility criteria for Deprivation Pupil Premium and is funded by Pupil Premium funding received from Central Government.  Eligibility is assessed each academic year.  

Deprivation Pupil Premium is received by the school for students who are eligible for Free School Meals or have been eligible in the previous six years.

For annual bus passes purchased for the academic year 2023/24 for school operated buses including services from Wallasey, Chester, Ellesmere Port, North Wales and Willaston/Neston and Parkgate  the financial support is £600 per school year per eligible student

School & Community Fund

Parents and carers are requested to make voluntary contributions to our School & Community Fund.  We ringfence 20% of the amount that you contribute for the benefit of our school community.  This will provide funding to allow us to act quickly to support students, staff, parents, carers and members of our West Kirby alumni, who need support and who would otherwise have nowhere to turn to for help.  This community support may take the form of Free School Meals for ineligible students, school uniform, footwear, support for household food and energy bills and other urgent needs identified by our Pastoral Team.

Pre-loved School Uniform Shop

We are launching an online shop for the sale of pre-loved uniform and PE kit in September.  By operating the shop we aim to save parents money and ensure that good quality clothes are reused.
